Daniel C. Peterson, Mormon, Chairman Of FARMS, Says, "I'm Not Paid" Directly By "The Mormon Church" At All. I'm Paid By "Brigham Young University!!"
Here are some quotes from a Daniel C. Peterson Email that was sent out to Infymus, who operates a website that posts information or posts about Daniel C. Peterson.
"I would like to correct a misstatement at your site: "Daniel C. Peterson," you say, "is paid directly by the Mormon Church to contradict, counteract, suppress, withhold and dismiss any claims made by persons outside the LDS Church."
This is not true."
"First, I'm not paid "directly by the Mormon Church" at all. I'm paid by Brigham Young University, as are all other professors and staff at the University (including those who are not Latter-day Saints). Thus, at best, I'm indirectly paid by the Mormon Church. This is less dramatic than your formulation, but it’s more accurate."
"Second, no part of my salary -- absolutely none, not a dime -- comes from my apologetic undertakings. I am a professor of Islamic studies and Arabic at Brigham Young University, situated in the Department of Asian and Near Eastern Languages":
http://asiane.byu.edu/arabic/index.php?content=people/peterson
"Additionally, I am the founder, editor-in-chief, and director of the University's Middle Eastern Texts Initiative":
http://meti.byu.edu/
"Formerly, I was also the director of the Center for the Preservation of Ancient Religious Texts, overseeing projects to digitize manuscripts in the Vatican Apostolic Library, in various monastic libraries in Lebanon, and elsewhere, as well as our on-going work on creating electronic databases for the Dead Sea Scrolls. I have, however, now turned that responsibility over to another."
"My salary comes from these activities. I receive no salary whatsoever from dealing with critics of Mormonism."
"I trust that you will correct your misstatement soon. I’m sure that you’re committed to truth and accuracy."
With best wishes,
Daniel Peterson

I was just doing a little digging on this and it seems so clear, without a shred of doubt, that FARMS is officially sanctioned by the Mormon Church. You would have to be a complete idiot and/or brain-dead, to not be able to see it. On the "about FARMS" page, it states, "Established as a private research organization in 1979, FARMS became part of BYU in 1997.
At the time, Gordon B. Hinckley, president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and chairman of the BYU Board of Trustees, observed that, "FARMS represents the efforts of sincere and dedicated scholars. I wish to express my strong congratulations and appreciation for those who started this effort and who have shepherded it to this point." He concluded by noting that he sees, "a bright future for this effort now through the university."
So, Hinckley officially knows about them, fully supports them and expresses his strong congratulations and appreciation for them. Hinckley was on the BYU Board of Trustees at the time, so how would he not know them? Peterson makes it sound like they aren't officially part of the Church, just because they are part of BYU, which is run by the First Presidency of course. Talk about splitting hairs!!
Hinckley saw a "a bright future for this effort now through the university", but of course, everyone is working for free, donating their time, that was why Hinckley felt the need to combine them with BYU. He wanted this purely volunteer force to be directly working for the Church. Yeah right!!
Of course, we don't know any of the financial details, because the Mormon Church hides them in secrecy from the world along with all of their other financial information and secrets. There is no way to know for sure, that I can find, but it is just common sense that the Church compensates these guys, who are dedicating their life to playing brain twister for the Mormon cult.
How are these guys supporting their Families? Is everyone that works at FARMS, a BYU Professor like Peterson? Is that how they work it? They force BYU Professors to work at FARMS so that they can then say that they don't pay them to work at FARMS? Maybe they just increase their professor pay in order to fairly compensate them for working at FARMS?
If this is the case, I would love to see a comparison of BYU Professors pay scales, including a breakdown of what they started at, how long they've been there and who is working at FARMS. We could then see if the Professors that are working at FARMS, are making more than regular Professors that should be making the same amount as them. Of course, we don't have access to that information.
Are we to actually believe that they don't get paid for their services? Everyone working at FARMS, is just a BYU Professor, moonlighting over at FARMS? Is it an official church calling? I don't buy it at all!! In one talk that Peterson gave in June 1999 at an Apologetics Conference, It says, "Daniel C. Peterson, chairman of the FARMS board and director of the FARMS Center for the Preservation of Ancient Religious Texts (CPART), was the keynote speaker." (It is now called "Neal A. Maxwell Institute for Religious Scholarship.)
Just an additional note on CPART/ISPART-Five years ago FARMS was joined by the Center for the Preservation of Ancient Religious Texts (CPART) and the Middle Eastern Texts Initiative (METI) to form ISPART.
So, he wants us to believe that he holds these big name titles for FARMS, is a keynote speaker, spends his days posting endlessly on the FAIR-board, but that he does it all for free or out of his TBM/Apologetic heart? He's a liar, but we already knew that. Also, I was reminded of the link between FARMS and FAIR, that they claim doesn't exist.
On John Dehlin's 3 part podcast with John Lynch from Fair, John Lynch was adamant in saying that there was no link whatsoever between FAIR and the Mormon church or FARMS. At the bottom of this page on FARMS, was a link to FAIR. It says, "FAIR intends to publish the proceedings of this conference. Those interested in obtaining a copy of the book can watch for further details by visiting FAIR's website at www.fair-lds.org."
http://farms.byu.edu/display.php?table=insights&id=78
Interesting how their is no connection whatsoever between the two, according to the professional Apologist, John Lynch, a board member at FAIR, but FARMS is linking directly to them and FAIR is publishing their talks from an apologetic conference. OOPS!! BUSTED!! Sounds like they were working hand in hand and this was back in 1999. I'm sure the bond is only stronger now. Could these guys tell the truth if their life depended on it? I seriously doubt it!!
They are all a bunch of liars and con men, compensated by the Mormon cult, especially Peterson. Of course, in their utter arrogance, they think the rest of the world is so stupid and beneath them, that we'd never figure it out.
I don't know if this helped clear up any misunderstandings regarding FARMS/FAIR and who is paying these clowns and how they are connected, but this Peterson guy is a real piece of work. I think that John Lynch from FAIR, must dreams of being the chairman of FARMS someday and taking over for Peterson when/if he retires. They all make me sick!!
One interesting fact, is that if they don't pay Peterson directly for working at FARMS, he is still working there on "company" time, therefore, is getting compensated and paid for "dealing with critics of Mormonism" or his "apologetic undertakings." Sorry Peterson, your apologetics don't work on me or most people that have a Non-Mormon, logical functioning brain.
Also, the wording in his Email was certainly interesting and damning. It was basically his apologetic skills at their finest or worst, however you want to look at it. He says, "First, I'm not paid 'directly by the Mormon Church' at all. I'm paid by Brigham Young University, as are all other professors and staff at the University (including those who are not Latter-day Saints). Thus, at best, I'm indirectly paid by the Mormon Church."
So, being paid by BYU, which is run directly by the Mormon Church, is not the same as being paid by the Church? So, we can surmise that all BYU Professors, according to Peterson, are not directly paid by the Mormon Church, including him. BYU is the Mormon Church, plain and simple. If it wasn't, they wouldn't have to live the standards of the Mormon Church and abide by the honor code. After all, the damn name of the university is Brigham Young University!! Gee, sounds pretty direct to me.
Is this Peterson guy so lost in apologetics that he has completely lost his mind and all sense of reality? Also, how many non-Mormons are currently teaching at BYU? Anybody got numbers on that? Why the hell would they even want to?
Also, being paid indirectly by one of their direct entities, isn't the same as being paid directly? Damn!! He can't even describe honestly how he is paid without being a pathetic apologist. I guess being a professional apologist, just consumes their life and they can't answer a single basic question without slipping into apologetics. If he really doesn't think the Church is paying him, just because it's BYU paying him, then he isn't just a pathetic Mormon Apologist, he's brain-dead and dumber than I thought, and may need some professional help.
The truth is, he's not dumb, just a very good liar for the Lord and is compensated well for what he does. In short, he is a professional liar for Hinckley and then Monson and so on and so on, plain an simple!!
I think the basic assumption by apologists like Peterson and Lynch, is that everyone else is below them, stupid and has no ability to do any rational thinking on their own. They assume that everyone will worship them, believe every word they say and not call them on anything. Hey, that sounds just like Joseph Smith. I always wondered where they learned their methods and tactics!! So, there you have it folks. I wonder if there is an official, internal manual, called, "How to lie for the Mormon Lord and get away with it, like Joseph Smith."
Here is a classic example of the BS that spews out of FARMS. I thought you would enjoy it!!
Anyway, take care, I hope this helped someone out there that has been wondering about these things. This Peterson guy is nothing but a slippery, slimy, Mormon Apologetic worm. I'll keep digging and see if I can find anything else. I'm also gonna try very hard to examine FAIR and the connection that they have with FARMS that obviously, albeit covertly, exists. I also want to know who supports FAIR financially. I don't believe that they function completely on donations, unless those "donations" are coming from the MORG or best buddies of the Mormon hierarchy.
If anybody out there knows inside information that I don't know, about the relationship between FAIR and FARMS and how they are paid, I would greatly appreciate you sharing it with me and the rest of the world.

FARMS (Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies)are the apologists (or in other words the defense)hired by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, and they receive their payment for their work through Brigham Young University, which is owned and operated by said church.

ReplyDeleteSo that's your argument that Peterson is paid by FARMS? Genius. He answered already how he supports his family while not being compensated by FARMS work.
